Promoting Petersfield to visitors
14/09/2010
A new website, a leaflet for visitors and a distinctive brand are further steps in the continuous effort to bring tourism and business to Petersfield.
To promote Petersfield as a visitor hub for the South Downs National Park, and to improve the experience of visitors and residents, Petersfield Tomorrow (P2M) has worked hard this summer – with the help of Hidden Britain South East. P2M, a local volunteer-run local organization, is dedicated to increasing the prominence of Petersfield.
In times of cuts and tight budgets, the potential benefits from visitors and tourism have become increasingly important, particularly to the survival of market towns. Petersfield has approached this challenge from a community-led and grass-roots perspective, with extensive public consultation.
Websites offer an important marketing resource, with local information, history and other data to inform and attract visitors. The town’s newly developed website –
www.visitpetersfield.co.uk – provides all of these, and free listings of places to stay, where to eat and drink, and what to do. Local Petersfield businesses are encouraged to enter their details and make the most of this opportunity.
To complement the website, a new "Visit Petersfield” leaflet provides a brief but comprehensive guide to the town and the surrounding area. Packed with interesting information, the leaflet gives visitors an excellent taster of Petersfield. Copies are available from the Tourist Information Centre in the Library in The Square, and have been distributed widely.
The website, the "Visit Petersfield” leaflet, and the brand – "Heart of the South Downs” – were developed by Navigate Design, the Petersfield-based marketing agency (www.navigate-design.com). Gareth Gammon, Navigate’s MD, said: "These have been important features of our local work.
"With the help of European and East Hampshire District Council funding, Navigate has worked with Petersfield Town Council, Petersfield Tomorrow and Hidden Britain to produce the 12-page leaflet, the new website, and the brand, selling the destination of Petersfield – and they are already helping to drive visitor numbers to the town and the area.”
