The Thurrock constituency on 5 April is targeted for the first local referendum to launch the People’s Pledge One: Ten: Hundred Campaign – "the largest ground campaign for an EU referendum ever held in this country," they say.
The Navigate digital team has re-designed the home page on the People's Pledge website to include a box for "Thurrock – 5 April 2012". When visitors click on the box they are taken to a new page which explains what will happen in Thurrock. There is also a countdown box to 5 April.
Ian McKenzie, Communications Director of the People’s Pledge, said: "Whether you want Britain to leave the EU or be part of an ever-closer union, you have the right to vote on what that future relationship should be. The People’s Pledge is giving the electors of Thurrock the chance to lead the way towards a national referendum.” Thurrock will be followed by 10 more constituencies this autumn, and 100 in 2013.
