The opening of South Downs National Park is the first big event on 1 April. This is day the South Downs National Park Authority takes lead responsibility for keeping the South Downs National Park a special place.
To mark this very important day, an opening ceremony and celebration will be held on the historic centre of Petersfield, in The Square. This will highlighting the newest National Park, its conservation and activities that promote understanding and enjoyment. The event is being designed to be media friendly and appealing.
It is expected that the event will run from 11.45am-1pm and will be attended by Margaret Paren, the Chair of the South Downs National Park Authority, and committee members; MPs; councillors from the county, district and Town councis. Users and Operators of activities in the Park, such as walkers, cyclists and schoolchildren.

Life in Petersfield Awards 2011
On the evening of 1 April, the Festival Hall, Petersfield, will resound to the fourth annual Life in Petersfield Business and Community Awards. Some 400 guests will witness this major event, which has become the Town's equivalent of the Oscars.
There are 15 categories, including awards for the year's best business, teacher, community initiative, sport, young achiever, event volunteer, not-for-profit organization, and personality of the year.
The event, sponsored overall by Kebbell Homes, starts at 5.15pm and ends at 8.30pm, with live music, dance, entertainment, food and drinks. Tickets cost £10 for a table seat or £7.50 for a chair (+VAT); there are concessions at £5.
