Navigate has given one of its key clients a new website and a new brand. The newly re-branded Portsmouth International Port revealed a new logo and a new website to the world in January.
The website has new features and functionality with a stylish design. And there’s a new name for the famous Port with a brand new terminal to open soon and more cruise ships than ever due to call at Portsmouth this summer.
From January both cruise and ferry customers are departing from and arriving at "Portsmouth International Port” [instead of the "Continental Ferry Port” as before].
The new name reflects the increasingly important role Portsmouth plays on the international shipping stage. Dredging work that begins in January will allow larger ships to arrive and depart at different states of tide. This is good news for a new generation of ferries and cruise ships, and it also makes Portsmouth the first European Port of call for heavily laden cargo ships.
This year will see up to 40 cruise ships calling at Portsmouth, a huge increase on 2010 which had 11 cruise ship calls. At the same time, Portsmouth will also be welcoming more freight ships with the recent announcement that Del Monte is making the Port its UK base.
Martin Putman, the Port Manager, explains : "As we develop our business to include a substantial number of cruise operators, alongside our existing ferry partners, it’s become clear that the Port has to have an identity that reflects all of our business activities. With a new terminal opening early this year the timing for a name change is perfect.”
The new terminal is part of a £16.5 million investment in new and improved passenger facilities at the Port. Designed to include the latest eco friendly technologies, the new terminal will be the first of its kind in the country to be heated and cooled by thermal energy from the sea.
With the name change also comes a new logo that reflects the Port’s modern outlook. Taking the sea as its inspiration the Port’s new logo is both contemporary and easily recognizable. The nautical theme is present in the colour and design of the wave.
Both the logo and the new name can be seen on the Port’s new website which went live in January 2011:
