Navigate facilitates Portsmouth cruise convention
02/08/2011

Cruise specialists arrived in Portsmouth this summer for the city’s first ever cruise convention. Navigate helped facilitate the Cruise Expo which was jointly organized by the Port, the Association of Cruise Experts (ACE) and leading cruise brand Swan Hellenic. Navigate also have close connections with ACE.
The programme included a Mini Cruise Trade Fair in the new terminal, an ACE Training Seminar for travel agents on the subject of 'Selling the value of Cruising', a tour of Swan Hellenic’s magnificent liner Minerva and lunch onboard.
More than 50 representatives from the industry gathered at the Port. Delegates had the chance to have a close look at the new terminal – part of a £16.5 million investment in comfort and convenience – and learned about its key features including streamlined baggage-handling facilities and a designated VIP area.
They also visited Portsmouth’s remarkable Historic Dockyard (with Nelson’s HMS Victory) and whizzed to the top of the 170m-tall Spinnaker Tower for wonderful views of the Port and the city.
Portsmouth International Port has carved out a successful niche welcoming small and medium-sized cruise ships, offering individual treatment for each vessel. Navigate, as the marketing agency, has played a full part in communicating the Port’s successes.
Major operators such as All Leisure Holidays, Fred Olsen and Sea Cloud have chosen Portsmouth for its superb position and impressive facilities, offering customers inspiring destinations aboard beautiful liners. Some 32 cruises are scheduled at Portsmouth International Port this year, a six-fold increase since cruises began 10 years ago.
