Navigate Is Green!

23/04/2007

Navigate Design is the first communication business in England to achieve Carbon Neutral status through energy assessors Energy Footprint.

Navigate Director Gareth Gammon said: "In today’s world it is important for us to accept responsibility for the environment and Navigate is delighted to have been given the Energy Footprint seal of approval.” Carbon emission assessors Energy Footprint offer businesses a complete carbon emissions audit. "Becoming environmentally aware can also lead to significant benefits for your business,” said Gareth. "In addition to saving costs and managing resource use, achieving Carbon Neutral status could mean the difference between losing and gaining new customers. We are increasingly observing the growing emphasis of environmental issues that clients are putting on what type of company they are employing,” he added. "Indeed, as marketing consultants we are recommending that all companies consider the impact of becoming Carbon Neutral.

Any company considering the environment as part of their internal strategy is encouraged to contact us now for advice,” he said. Energy Footprint Director Neil Casson said: "Both individuals and businesses are beginning to recognise the need to address the climate change challenge. Most businesses have no idea about how much carbon dioxide their activities produce, or what they can most effectively do to reduce them. We help them through that process, and advise them on how to offset should they choose to do so.”

The Energy Footprint audit begins by determining the business activities and processes that contribute to carbon emissions, and then calculating this in terms of tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The next step involves identifying ways in which the business can reduce these emissions, either directly itself or in conjunction with other organisations. The final step is to consider, if appropriate, the option of offsetting the emissions that cannot be avoided. Offsetting balances out a business’s carbon emissions by purchasing investments in ‘green’ activities, such as hydro-electric plants or wind farms, which amount to the same measure of emissions released by the company each year. "Offsetting is not expensive, but it should be carefully planned and only considered once all measures have been identified to reduce direct and indirect emissions,” said Neil, "Nevertheless, it is certainly worthwhile undertaking.

” Energy Footprint reviews each company annually with a recalculation of its carbon dioxide emissions for that year’s activities, establishing whether targets have been reached and identifying where there is opportunity for further improvement. "Knowing how and where your carbon emissions come from, and what you can do to reduce them, can be a time-consuming and daunting challenge for most businesses” says Neil, "and that’s why we are happy to be able to guide our clients through the process from start to finish.”
