Media called to South Downs celebration
25/03/2011

A call has gone out to the national and local media about the official opening ceremony to celebrate the new South Downs National Park in the Square, Petersfield, on 1 April. The event, jointly organized by Navigate and Haines Net, is attracting widespread interest.
The opening ceremony, which starts at 11.45am, will be hosted by Margaret Paren, Chair of the South Downs National Park Authority, in the presence of local MP Damian Hinds, other dignitaries and a host of schoolchildren.
At noon the ceremony will climax with the formal opening by Mrs Paren, the unfurling of the new South Downs National Park flag, and the ringing of a handbell to start a chain of bells from St Peter's Church, Petersfield, across the South Downs.
The event will take place in front of a huge map of the South Downs, covering approximately a quarter of the Square. Some 25 exhibitors will display activities including walking, cycling, canoeing, hang-gliding, nature conservation, and zorbing.
