Dan the dancing designer
21/12/2010

Dan Vear brings a highly creative dynamic to his work for clients on their designs. And there is also a "Strictly Come Dancing" side to Dan.
With a flair for all aspects of graphic design, Dan is great at making design work for clients in many different media. He aims to keep the brand consistent and true throughout, and help clients to meet their brief.
"Variety is the best thing about my work," says Dan, "and there are so many interesting challenges. At the briefing stage of a job we listen to customers to discover what they like and what they want. Then we look at their existing styles, and research the market to see what competitors are doing.
"Sometimes we have to create a completely new style, and then it's great to be part of a team of designers so we can bounce ideas off each other if we get stuck."
Now aged 33, Dan studied art and design at Fareham College for three years followed by two years working on a graphic design HND course at Southampton Institute (now Southampton Solent University). "At college I tried many different aspects of graphic design," Dan says. "I also became very keen on sculpture for a while but realized that it did not provide an obvious career path to earn a living."
After college he joined Designline in Havant in 1998, and moved with his studio colleagues to Navigate in Petersfield following the merger of the two companies in summer 2010.
The "Strictly Come Dancing" side to Dan surfaces when he hears Latin American music. He enjoys latin dances, especially the tango. Other hobbies include mountain biking, playing group computer games, and socializing in Southsea, where he lives.
